The Cortez Round Stingray is native to the Sea of Cortez and can grow up to 17 inches long. They have a spine on their tail and if stepped on can deliver a pretty painful sting. Because they like shallow waters, you'll see signs on the beach warning to be careful when entering the water, advised to shuffle your feet so you don't run the risk of stepping on one.
